Update!!

Hi Folks,

So sorry that we have not updated you in a very loooooong time. Both Renee and I have been crazy busy.

Summer had her thryoid surgically removed. Then she had to endure living without thyroid hormone replacement which made her extremely exhausted. She had to eat a special iodine free diet which has left her very hungry. These measures were to prepare her for a scan to see if the surgery successfully removed all traces of cancer.

Several people helped her with the girls (thank you for all the donations we were able to pay for some babysitting!!) and we set up a laundry service to come pick-up, wash fold and re-deliver laundry. Then she had to take radioactive iodine and her sister, Jahna, took the children for the weekend because Summer was not allowed around children to avoid radiation exposure.

Soon after that she had the scan, which unfortunately, showed that all the cancer was not removed. So she is now going thru a similar ordeal and will get radiation treatment this week. Her sister will again take the children for the weekend, and then Summer gets some medication and had to do the diet for sometime.

Please send healing energy her way!! If you have not donated yet, or can afford to do it again, she still needs help. We will use the money for childcare and laundry services.

Thank you for all you donations, love and prayers!!

Summer is recovering well.

Hi Everyone,

Once again, we want to thank everyone for your well wishes, prayers, and donations. Keep 'e em coming by clicking the Paypal button at the top of this page or by contacting us if you want to mail a check. Summer is truly feeling your love and is feeling very blessed by all of your support!

Summer had her thyroid surgically removed last Thursday. The surgery went well and she was sent home the next day. Her sister took the kids for the weekend so Summer could really rest for a couple of days.

Summer text messaged me yesterday that she had some pain but that the pain killer takes the edge off- as well as make her super sleepy - of course LOL. I bet the sleep is good for her healing.

She also told me that she never realized how much she uses her neck muscles because even sometimes the slightest movement will cause her to notice the incision pain. I think it is incredible how much we use our necks and really don't notice in our day-to-day life. So for her now, it is especially wonderful that so many people have donated to the child care fund, because lifting a 17 month old up from the ground mos def engages the neck muscles LOL. As the mom of a 20 month old I know it is impossible not to pick up our little ones, and how the help is so appreciated by her.

The doctor gave her thyroid medication which she has begun taking. In my clinical experience it takes a good 3-5 weeks before patients begin to feel more energy with thyroid drugs. So she has something to look forward to!

Paypal Donation button

Hi friends and family,

We've added a link near the top of the page for donations that will go towards paying for childcare while Summer is recovering from surgery. She's going to need full-time childcare for a while, and we want to chip in to make that possible.

Please consider donating for this fund. All money donated will go into a special account set up just for Summer.

If you'd like the money that you donate to be earmarked for some other purpose (for example: for food deliveries, laundry services, or other day-to-day things that she'll need help with), please just send me an email and let me know at summershealth@gmail.com.

Thanks for your help. Every little bit adds up.

Much love,
Renee and Juliette

First Step: Childcare after the Surgery

Summer will have surgery to remove her thyroid on January 7th. The type of cancer she has, is called papillary thyroid cancer, which has the highest mortality rate of all thyroid cancers.

Summer tells us that her surgeon is very kind, very compassionate and very knowledgeable. After thyroid surgery, Summer might not be able to talk so well, nor eat so well, and she must avoid heavy lifting. Since she is the main caretaker of her two daughters ages 8 months old and 7 years old, and the main caretaker her household while her man works hard for the money, we are collecting funds to hire babysitters whenever she needs them. One of our other cousins has volunteered to stay with Summer to help the family for about a week, after which another friend said she could stay for about one week. But surgical recovery takes 6-8 weeks so Summer will need more childcare help during that time.

Both Renee and I will distribute the funds to the babysitting services on as as needed basis and we will report how much we have collected and when and how it is distributed so that everyone knows where the mullah goes! LOL You can donate NOW via the PAYPAL LINK at the top of this Blog page

Every dollar counts. If you can only afford to donate $5, please do so. If in two more weeks you can afford to donate $5 more, Summer and her long-time partner Terry will very much appreciate anything that you can do to assist their family.

Also, as an FYI Summer, thankfully, has health insurance which will cover the vast majority of treatments and the medications she will have to remain on lifelong. Of course there are the out-of-pocket expenses that we all face, even when we have insurance. But at least she has insurance. Phew!

Thank you for your help, your prayers and positive frame of mind for Summer's recovery!
